Why is this a Revolution?
The Playful Revolution is a company founded by TJ Matton and built on the principle that play is central to our humanity. Play is a right, not a reward. TJ has always been social justice-oriented and, as a social worker, social justice is core to her orientation in the world.
We live in a culture that says “You can play when your chores are done” but then establishes a life for us where the chores are never done.
We live in a culture that will work us to death—and then think nothing of replacing you when you’re gone.
This is not how we are meant to live. This is the result of hundreds of years of dehumanization. We live in a culture built on privilege. Where the use and abuse of bodies for systemic gains feels normal.
And no one is ok.
We all have the natural capacity to play. It is an inalienable right in our body. When we look at the mammal world, play is central to living and is done throughout every mammal's lifetime. It is blended into identity, community, families, and work.
We have the right to reorganize our lives so that play, rest, and connection are central. Because after all, we are mammals. Play is our nature.
