Here at The Playful Revolution, we take
play seriously.
What does that mean? I'm so glad you asked!
What we know to be true.
We know play is the neglected side of the modern mindfulness movement.
If you’ve been in the wellness world, you have heard the term mindfulness and maybe you’ve experienced mindfulness practices like meditation and breathwork.
Theoretically, these practices are a way to quiet the body, help it slow down and become less reactive, and build up tolerance and capacity in everyday life.
But there are some downfalls to the modern mindfulness movement that play addresses.
Mindfulness focuses on calming the nervous system down, providing coping skills and self-regulation. To help us it slow down and become less reactive, and build up tolerance and capacity in everyday life.
But that’s not the only thing we need.
By only trying to regulate ourselves, we end up deprived of exploration, movement, and expression. All things we desperately need.
A mindful play practice centers your joy and expression, bringing intention and meaning to your play. If modern mindfulness practices are like sharpening a pencil to write more clearly, then play is the vibrant ink that turns your words into art, bringing color and life to the page. Both are necessary, but play gives you the freedom to express beyond the lines, to move, create, and thrive. By building a play mindfulness practice, you'll feel more aligned, engaged, and fulfilled in your life.
"I had everything I wanted, a loving family, a successful career, and wonderful friends; but something was still missing.
I tried it all…therapy, medication, self-help books, the works. They were successful in most aspects, but somehow I still lacked joy. Then TJ shared with me her Playful Revolution.
Quite frankly, she changed my life with play. Through her work I have reconnected with my nervous system, and I am fully able to recognize the moments of play in my ordinary days.
Her brilliance, kindness, and openness made my vulnerability easy, while her “homework” had me looking for more. I am forever grateful for TJ and this beautifully curated program re-learning joyful play."

Full-time Working Parent & Revitalized Player
We know that when play is taken as seriously as other mindfulness and wellness practices it has the power to rewire your brain, strengthen relationships, and transform your life without changing a single thing.
And that in fact, LEARNING your primary form of play, enables you to engage more meaningfully in all areas of your life (including traditional wellness) with more joyful intention.
The practice of play is what builds new neural pathways. Play is what builds our capacity to imagine, create, and integrate new ways of thinking, feeling, and being.
We know that play is a human right and a fundamental biological drive. Our play is not child’s play.
Play is a primal drive that lives within us from birth through death. It is the fire that keeps us curious, creative, engaged, and feeling alive.
In our modern world of responsibility and productivity, we neglect the human experience of play. We’re disconnected from our play over time by culture, community, and personal experiences.
But all of us have a fundamental right to feel joy. We have the right to express ourselves. Play is our right, and this revolution is to take it back.
That doesn’t mean that our play isn’t fun, light, and enlivening. Because, at the end of the day, it’s PLAY! In fact, when you build a play mindfulness practice, you’ll be equipped to find the fun in even the most mundane, soul-sucking, BORING adult tasks.
We know that adults crave a different kind of play and it’s not as simple as “go have fun.
Ugh, how annoying is that question, “What do you do for fun?”
Play and hobbies are not the same thing.
Fun isn’t one-dimensional. Sometimes it spontaneously falls in your lap. But, it is often the result of seeking something that interests you slightly and learning to feel safe enough to liberate the joy within you! Fun can come from the challenge of cocreating with yourself, your life, or others an experience that is joyful and liberating.
We know that all people play uniquely and play comes in all shapes and sizes
It is important that you have the freedom to tap into the universal yet unique way that play lives within you.
It has the power to help you change, evolve, and come back to life in your life.
A quick rant on modern mindfulness...
Our one-size-fits-all approach to mindfulness in the U.S. isn’t working.
First off, traditional mindfulness doesn’t work for everyone. And, it’s not you. It’s them. Not every brain is the same. Some of us need visual, creative, or movement-based mindfulness.
Your play style determines what helps guide you into stillness, calm, and rest. All of which are essential states for integration and rejuvenation.
If you have a brain that needs “alive” stillness, you will likely feel suffocated and repressed by traditional mindfulness practices.
Secondly, current mindfulness can leave you stranded asking…well…now what?
Current mindfulness practices don’t answer the question, what do I do with the part of me that wants aliveness? That wants to feel the electricity within me fire up? That wants the neurons in me to throw an epic fireworks party?
And that pulse and drive towards aliveness…well that can not be meditated away. That is the pulse of play.
This is where play as a mindfulness practice comes in…
Starting Your Mindful Play Practice
When starting your mindful play practice, the first thing to ask yourself is, what do I want more of in my life?
Play as a mindfulness practice means we’re not ONLY playing for the “fun” of it, but using the energy and pull of play to ask you, where do you want to go with this joy? How do you want to feel in this world? You’ll explore what kind of play helps you slow down? what kind of play helps you feel alive? And, where do you want your play to take you?
More ease. More challenge. More capable. More excitement. More calmness. More resilience. More creativity. More lightness. More joy. More focus. More laughter.
More alive.
It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure feel.
But, in that concept, choice matters.
Mindful play starts with choice. YOUR choice.
What is your why? If you’re going to put time, energy, and attention into something, what do you want to feel more of?
Answering this question, your why helps you ground your play in meaningfulness and intention. This is the first step of building your play practice.
The reality is, some people are INCREDIBLY gifted as whimsical and frivolous players but that’s not the full scope of play. You may crave deeper, more meaningful, and intentional play.
Your relationship with play is a lifelong journey, one that you can nurture and grow with you throughout your life. And we’re here for that.
We’re here for you on this journey.
We’re here to unleash that part of you that cares.
We’re here to support that part of you that wants your play to mean something.
We’re here for the part of you that wants to create something different within you and the world around you.
We’re here for the play that helps us evolve.
We’re here for the play that liberates.
We're here for the play that pushes back against systems and rules that don’t work for you.
We’re here for the play that helps us feel more connected to ourselves and others.
Let’s use that pulse of play for the good of you, your family, your community, and our world.
This is a revolution after all.
