Playing in the Clouds
Below are four different play prompts all around the theme of clouds. Review and consider the following questions as you choose which prompt to try:
- Which of these play ideas intrigues me the most?
- Which one feels most comfortable to me?
-
What do I need right now? Which one of these play ideas will help me receive what I need?
(For example, if you're feeling drained and tired, maybe lying on the grass looking at clouds is exactly the restful play you need!)
Imaginative Play
Below is a 6-minute guided play journey to listen to outside, lying down doing an imagination classic: searching for animal shapes in the clouds.
Focus on the engagement you feel as you let your imagination take control. Allowing yourself to get pulled into something with embodiment, engagement, and enjoyment. Find a comfortable spot to look up and when you’re ready, continue listening to this 6-minute guided play…
Cloud animal work is about letting yourself feel aware, engaged, and intrigued by the landscape of the sky and using your imagination to fill the world around you.
Creative Play
Grab something to write with and something to write on, we're making bad art!
But seriously, the challenge here is to create without criticism. Perfectionism, performance, and productivity all get in the way of your creative play. So set a timer for 10 minutes, sit somewhere you love, and just start making art inspired by the idea of clouds. It doesn't have to be literal clouds, in fact, here are some other ways to guide your art.
- If your vibe right now was a cloud, what would it look like?
- Think back to a time where the clouds took your breath away, create based on the feelings and imagery of that moment.
- Draw as many different cloud scenes as possible, how many different ways do we see the clouds in our everyday lives?
Or! You can just draw literal clouds for 10 minutes. This is about YOUR enjoyment, if creating clouds give you enjoyment that's all that matters.
Exploration Play
Get a piece of paper and write down five words that you think of when you think of "clouds." In play, there's no right or wrong, just your engagement and enjoyment.
Once you have your five words, go on a hunt to find an item that reminds you of that word. You can either:
- Get into some competitive play and set a timer for 1 minute, and see how many you can find immediately around you.
- Bring the words with you and throughout the day see if you can collect an item for all five words.
Movement Play
Movement play is about dropping out of your mind and into your body. Activating the parts of you that come alive with kinetic play.
This is TJ's favorite, most natural form of play. So for this prompt you're going to join her in dancing like a cloud, listening to this Cloud Playlist created by TJ. Open the playlist, press play, and start dancing along with TJ as you become the movement of the clouds!
